Why You Need a SARS Tax Number

  • Production companies are required by law to deduct tax (PAYE) from your earnings if you earn over a certain amount.
  • Without a tax number, you may not be booked, or your payment could be delayed or reduced.
  • Your tax number allows SARS to keep a record of your earnings and helps you avoid trouble in the future.

How to register with SARS

You don’t need to pay anyone to get a tax number. It’s free, quick, and can be done online or by visiting SARS.

  • Option 1: Check if you already have one - SMS your ID number to 47277 (Standard SMS rates apply) You will receive your tax number if you are registered.
  • Option 2: Register online - Use eFiling on the SARS website
    You’ll need:
    Your South African ID
    A working email address
    A mobile number
  • Option 3: Visit a SARS branch- You can visit your nearest SARS office with your ID and proof of address. Branch locator below.
    Once you have your tax number: ➡️ Get your SARS letter (confirmation of registration) and keep it on file.
